KERU COMMUNITY FRIDGE CONTINUES TO UNITE AND FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE
Quote from the guestbook (written 2.2.2020):
“ Many people dream of making the world a better place, but few really have the will and the courage to take action. You had an ingenious idea for Keru Community Fridge that would fight climate change, reduce food waste and environmental issues, bring different people together, increase inclusion, improve the quality of life for many, increase people’s awareness and possibilities to make a difference and bring us hope and joy.
It took tremendous effort, dedication, familiarity with the topic, training of volunteers, refinement of working methods, courageous alienation and selfless idealism to realise your idea. It’s amazing how well you made it work from the beginning! It is even more amazing how well activities continued and developed after the initial excitement.
It’s hard to understand that there is no permanent funding available for such a great project, because with quite a small amount of money, a great amount of goodness could be achieved. It’s really a pity if the operations have to be closed down now. I hope a good fairy will appear from somewhere and Keru can return/continue better than ever.
Thank you, wonderful team members of Keru and many volunteers, for being able to work for our benefit week after week, month after month. You probably have no idea how much good you have accomplished and how much we value you. The food is very welcome and it is heart-warming to see how warmly and friendly you have received all visitors. Thank you very much and all the best! Spasibo! Shukran! Gracias! Merci! Thank you so much! “
Our team has been delighted and grateful to read such amazing and touching feedback. It has been a pleasure to share it with team members on a pilot project brunch at Restaurant Loop and our team Whatsapp group. When we started operating the Keru Community Fridge, we did not know how the concept would succeed or what challenges there would be involved in running it. Now we are more experienced and wiser with many things, although there is still much to learn and develop.
We are happy to tell you that the Keru Community Fridge will continue to operate after the pilot period as of 3.2.2020. In the future, the “Keru-yhteisöjääkaappi ry” association will be responsible for activities – more information available on Facebook page and Instagram.
The materials and tools resulting from the pilot project will be published on the community fridge.info platform by the end of 2020.
Keru Community Fridge is open during the Kalliola Settlement House opening times:
Mon–Fri 8am–8pm and Sat–Sun 10am–4pm.
