WELCOME TO KERU-KEKKERIT OPENING PARTY 7.9.2018
Keru community fridge invites you to have fun and get to know ways to reduce food waste in the opening party at Kalliolan Setlementtitalo on Friday 7th of September between 6–10pm. According to our knowledge, Keru is the first public community fridge in Helsinki, and it will open on September 3rd 2018. The official opening event is held on same week’s Friday. Keru starts with a pilot period which lasts until the end of November. Keru activities will be further developed based on the experiences gained during the pilot period. Keru community fridge offers an open and simple way to redistribute food that would otherwise go to waste. This unique project in Finnish scale invites you and anyone interested to get familiar with surplus food, ways to use it and take part in climate activity in practice through reducing food waste.
In the opening party you can nourish the stomach, heart and mind. The appetisers prepared from a surplus food will make your mouth water. The Cultural Network of Kallio will present us with awesome musicians: Duo Harjateräs and Lulu Band. DJ Hapan korppu and Drpeura will make sure you get to show your best dance moves. Reducing food waste is such an important global issue that it’s a topic worth talking about. No one should willingly throw away edible food. Therefore, we have invited sustainable development specialists to give short talks to cover different viewpoints around the topic. In the party you can also meet the team behind Keru concept and hear about the first step of the project. It is also possible to get familiar with Keru community fridge and see how it works.
Keru opening party is organised by Waste Food Crew in collaboration with Kalliolan Setlementti and the Cultural Network of Kallio.
Volunteers can take part in organising the event or support the activity in some other ways. Please contact Mari Sahlsténilta (mari.sahlsten@gmail.com) if you want to join the party crew.
